3/19 Recap

Yeah, following a 10-2 +8.14 day with a 0-7 -7.85u day is not ideal but it’s gambling. Everything clicked on Tuesday. Everything went wrong on Wednesday. Upstate / Wofford hooked with RISP less than two outs in the 9th. Memphis dropped in extras. Abilene was shelled the first inning and just could not fully come back. They made a good run but lost 15-13. A two day rollercoaster. Let’s have a weekend.

Write Ups

Tennessee @ Alabama

Alabama took a huge game one last night in Tuscaloosa. Alabama gave TN SP, Liam Doyle, a rough 2nd inning after a bases clearing double from the Golden Spikes Award front runner, Justin LeBron. Outside of that one inning (which included a few defensive blunders as well) , Doyle produced a pretty good start and gave the Vols a chance to win. Bama’s SP Zane Adams did a great job of limiting damage from a high powered lineup. Riley Quick will get the ball for the Tide today with an opportunity to win the series against the #1 team in the country. However, I believe I like the TN lineup against RHP more than I do LHP. One of their best hitters, Gavin Kilen, sat last night against the LHP. He was listed as questionable on the injury report for the weekend. His bat is obviously a big boost to this lineup and hopefully we see him back out there today. Marcus Phillips will go for the Vols. He is fresh off of his best start of his career last week vs Florida and has looked comfortable after moving to the rotation. Kilen’s availability is big, but I like Tennessee to bounce back here today and force a game 3 rubber match.

Georgia @ Florida

No Liam Peterson for the Gators this weekend hurts. Aiden King will slide into the Friday role for this weekend after an impressive b2b starts. The freshman looked comfortable last weekend on the road against a powerful Tennessee lineup. We know Georgia’s lineup will produce runs. Can Florida’s heat back up? They struggled last weekend but TN’s pitching is night / day compared to Georgia’s staff. Georgia has moved top bullpen arm, Brian Curley, to the Saturday role as an attempt to help out this starting rotation. Charlie Goldstein will remain in the Friday role for the time being. I believe game 3 will decide this series this weekend in Gainesville.

Wake Forest @ Clemson

A big time battle in the ACC this weekend as WF travels to Clemson. Logan Lunceford vs Aiden Knaak on Friday will be one of the better pitching matchups of the weekend. I like Wake’s lineup a little more than Clemson’s, but DKS is not an easy place to leave with a win (16-1 home record this season). Lean Clemson’s way slightly, but this will be a great series between two potential Omaha teams.

LSU @ Texas

The series of the weekend and a top 5 matchup according to my rankings, the LSU Tigers get to travel to Austin for the Longhorn’s first home SEC series. With no Texas basketball games scheduled for this weekend, this atmosphere will be rocking. Kade Anderson and Jared Spencer against these two lineups will be a great Friday night showdown. In the end, I give the edge to LSU. I believe their deep lineup and bullpen will be the advantage. The Texas bullpen is not great, and lost another arm to injury on Tuesday night.

UC Irvine @ UC Santa Barbara

This will be a straight battle between offensive firepower vs pitching and defense. Also a pretty elite name battle between the Anteaters and Gauchos. UC Irvine can swing it. They have produced runs in nearly every single game this season. Unfortunately for the Eaters they have limited amounts of pitching, leaving them in shootouts. UCSB is the complete opposite. They play great defense behind a loaded rotation that is anchored by a solid bullpen. UCSB Friday Starter, Tyler Bremner, is a projected top 5 pick and one of the top arms in the country. Lean UCSB at home here in a pivotal Big West series.

Arizona @ West Virginia

I am really looking forward to watching this series. I was excited to get a good look at the Mountaineers last weekend at OKST, but they unfortunately only played one game due to the circumstances in Stillwater. WVU has been great this season, but has yet to play a 3 game series against good competition. This weekend will be a great opportunity to prove they belong at the top of the Big 12. Arizona has quietly been playing some of the best baseball in the country. After a rough opening weekend, the Wildcats have figured it out. Their pitching staff has really come together. They were snubbed from D1’s rankings last week but a series victory this weekend will leave no question. Escaping Morgantown with a series victory will be no easy task, but I lean Arizona.

Coastal Carolina @ Troy

With ULL struggling, the Sun Belt appears to be a 3 team race between USM, Troy, and Coastal. This Coastal team has been better than I expected. They have a well rounded rotation supported by a good lineup. Troy’s pitching is iffy and has shown to blow up at any given time but their lineup is the best in the conference. I am not as sold on Troy as the media outlets are, but they are a good team. I give Coastal the pitching advantage and Troy the offensive advantage. I would likely lean the home team’s way in this series each way.
