Tennessee @ LSU

  • This series has been marked on the calendars for each fan base the entire season. The Vols will travel to LSU for a matchup between two teams tied for 3rd place in the SEC standings. LSU is looking to bounce back from a disappointing midweek showing against Northwestern State. I wouldn’t put much into that performance as this team will be ready to play tonight. Kade Anderson and Liam Doyle are two of the country’s best starters and will have the ball on Friday. This series will be a battle. In both of Tennessee’s series losses, they have won on Friday and lost games 2 and 3. The Tennessee offense will have to produce a better showing than last weekend as Kentucky shut them down in the final two games. LSU’s offense will also hope to have a better showing. Auburn shut them down two weeks ago and they only managed 4 runs in the final 2 games against Alabama. The Tigers are 25-3 this season at the Box and have yet to lose a home series. However, I have a slight lean to Tennessee here in a very close series. Liam Doyle has been a huge advantage in game one. I believe the offense will bounce back.

Texas A&M @ Texas

  • The storyline was set last Summer and we are finally here. Jim Schlossanagle and the Longhorns will host a red hot Texas A&M team. I believe the Aggies are playing some of the best baseball in the country and finally living up to some of that preseason #1 hype. With series wins in Knoxville and Fayetteville, A&M will not be phased by the atmosphere. However,Texas has been tough to beat at home this season. The Longhorns have already collected sweeps against Georgia and Auburn while taking 2/3 from LSU at home. Schloss is one of the best coaches in the game and will game plan accordingly given he knows most of A&M’s lineups. The bad news for Texas is that ace Jared Spencer will be out for the season. Spencer had been a staple in game one for the Longhorns all season. It will be a massive loss, but we have no reason to doubt Schloss and Max Weiner as they have proven their magic time after time. Of course this will be a must watch series in a rocking atmosphere. I lean Texas A&M. The Aggies road wins @ TN and @ Ark are huge for me. They have extra motivation here and head into this series playing great ball.

Vanderbilt @ Ole Miss

  • With a 11-7 SEC record and stand alone 5th place, Vandy will head to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. After a great start, the Rebels have dropped the last two SEC series and sit at 11-8 which is one game back of Vandy in the standings. Hunter Elliott will get the ball on Friday. He has allowed 3+ ER in 5 of his 6 SEC starts this season. His strikeout numbers have also dropped over his last 3 starts. JD Thompson will go for Vandy. He is fresh off his best start of the season as he shut down Georgia last Thursday. Thompson has flashed huge upside, but has also been hit around in a few starts this season. Vandy has dropped 2 of their 3 road SEC series this season while Ole Miss has dropped 2 of their 3 home SEC series this season. Vanderbilt’s RJ Austin is listed as questionable on the injury report. He missed the final game last weekend as well as the midweek game so I am not sure if he goes this weekend or not. Vandy looks like a team that can play deep into the tournament but winning on the road in the SEC has not been their strength the last few seasons. Ole Miss is due for another home series win after barely losing to Tennessee and Arkansas. Lean Rebels.

Oregon State @ Oregon

  • This series is huge for Oregon. The Ducks are somehow ranked well each week but lack the RPI to support that. Oregon is a great team on paper and picked up a huge series win last weekend but have shown to flop multiple times this season. The good news for the Ducks is that I also believe Oregon State is over ranked given their resume. On paper, they are a great team but they have not really been tested on the road. The Beavers have road wins @ Cal Poly, @ CSUN, and @ Cal St Fullerton but also have own a series loss @ Nebraska and losses to Auburn, Oklahoma, and Minnesota on a neutral. Oregon came through for me last week, but it’s hard for me to trust them. In my opinion, Oregon State is the better team here so I will lean with the Beavs. I would not be surprised to see Oregon win game one with Grinsell then drop the final 2.

Florida State @ Louisville

  • After last night’s NCST win over Clemson, the ACC is currently a 4 way tie for first place. After missing last week’s home series vs Virginia due to the unfortunate circumstances, FSU responded well with a come back victory over Stetson on Tuesday. The Seminoles are the best team in the ACC in the minds of many and will have a great opportunity to prove that this weekend against a good Louisville team. The starters are rested. They should be ready to go. Louisville’s offense has been raking. Their pitching fell flat on Tuesday, but their rotation was already thin with ace Patrick Forbes missing his last start. Louisville has yet to release their starting rotation so I would monitor whether Forbes goes on Friday Night or not. I don’t really have a strong lean here for the series. Florida State is likely the better team and well rested but I also believe Louisville can play with anyone in the ACC.
