W7: 10-9-2 (+0.57u)

YTD: 90-62-2 (+23.98u)

What a rollercoaster of a weekend. I started off slow before finally catching fire on the late slate.

  • Alabama, Tennessee, and Boise State all leave the back door wide open. Boise was up 41-17… allows a TD with a minute left and of course, New Mexico decides to get the 2pt conversion for the cover. 41-25 final.
  • East Carolina could have easily covered on Thursday Night. Tulane scores a TD with :30 remaining instead waiting and hitting a chip shot FG in the final seconds.
  • BYU / Arizona ended regulation at 48, but played in overtime to go over the number.
  • NC State went into the half down 10-7 but found zero success in the 2H. ND’s defense gave CJ Bailey a tough time.
  • TCU / Kansas State 1.5u comes home in the 4th quarter after a very slow start.
  • Penn State will be my worst read of the season. Yeah, that was bad. Don’t judge.
  • La Tech lost it after their starting QB went down in the first half. Offense never found a groove.

Notes:

  • James Franklin is fired after hosting College GameDay for a top 5 matchup only 2 weeks ago. I thought it was a quick fire given the success PSU has had the last few seasons, but b2b losses to UCLA & NW are hard to overcome. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side though. Franklin will be receiving $50M to go away. Not bad. My guess for the new hire is Matt Campbell or Matt Rhule.
  • Indiana’s defensive staff had a phenomenal game plan and they executed perfectly. Moore was never comfortable and struggled to progress through his reads. IU has basically locked their CFB playoff spot up (-2000 to make it). Cignetti be the big name hire everyone talks about, but I really believe he is happy at Indiana. Why change anything? Oregon’s 2 OT win over Penn State has lost value. The Ducks need to bounce back and find their groove before playing USC & Washington to end the season.
  • Pittsburgh upsets Florida State. Freshman QB, Mason Heintschel, has really stepped up. RB Desmond Reid returned from injury and racked up 200 total yards with 2 TDs.
  • South Florida picks up a big conference win on the road over North Texas. QB Byrum Brown led the Bulls to 42 2H points. He tossed for 3 TDs while adding 2 with his legs. USF has a visit with Memphis scheduled in 2 weeks.
  • Old Dominion turns the ball over 5 times in an upset loss to Marshall. Monarchs will need to clean that up as they prepare for a stout JMU defense. Marshall’s QB Carlos Del Rio Wilson had a great game.
  • When most of the world expected a UCLA hangover, the Bruins come out with a dominant road win over Michigan State. They have turned it around under interim HC Tim Skipper.
  • The Texas defense dominated Oklahoma in a 23-6 Red River Rivalry victory. Arch did enough and RB Tre Wisener added 5 receptions to go along with his 94 yards rushing yards. John Mateer returned too early. He should improve with time, but that schedule is brutal. Finishing 7-5 is a very realistic possibility for the Sooners after sitting at #6 before this weekend.
  • Texas A&M picks up another SEC win. The Aggies are balanced on both sides of the football. Marcel Reed They are currently sitting at -300 to make the CFB Playoff.
  • Texas Tech is the best team in the Big 12 by a large margin. QB Behren Morton left with an injury but backup Will Hammond delivered. RB Cameron Dickey rushed for 263 yards and 2 TDs.
  • USC holds Michigan standout RB, Justice Haynes, to only 51 yards. RS Freshman, King Miller steps up for an injured RB room and pounds out 158 yards on 18 carries.
  • What did Hugh Freeze and Auburn do to the SEC referees? It seems like Auburn can’t catch a break. Anyhow, that isn’t why they lost the game. Kirby made adjustments at the break and Auburn finished with 25 2H yards. QB Jackson Arnold has eclipsed 200 yards passing in only two games this season.

EARLY WEEK 8 BETS

Ohio -11.5 -105 (11s available)

New Mexico -10 -110

FIU +10.5 -112 (Tuesday)

I also have an Oregon -14.5, but it shot up to -17.5 last night. If you can find a 17, I like it. Great matchup for the Ducks offense to bounce back.
