Welcome to Supers! We will have the Omaha field of 8 set after this weekend. I will have another WordPress coming out with my bets.
Miami @ Louisville
An all ACC supers matchup that no one expected. Honestly, I believed both of these teams had peaked at wrong times of the season before they made an exit in regionals. They proved a lot of people wrong. I am happy for Louisville. After watching them early in the season, I could see the works of a very dangerous lineup surrounded by arms with upside. The pitching has fallen through at times, but Patrick Forbes returning has been huge for the staff. Miami is a tough team for me to judge. I fade them and they turn into the AL All Stars, I back then and they turn into my local HS team. I was very surprised to see them come out of Hattiesburg with Bama and USM. If you’re a Miami fan, be happy I took Louisville here.
2025 Draft Prospects
UL – Patrick Forbes RHP (#36)
Miami – Griffin Hugus RHP (#164)
Prediction: Louisville
Florida State @ Oregon State
This will be a good one. The Beavs will host FSU after winning the Corvallis regional. Oregon State dropped game one to St Mary’s before winning out. OSU has a deep roster, full of hard throwing arms and talented bats which could set up well for a potential Omaha team. They have historically been tough to beat at home. Florida State has the pop to win this series on the road. The Seminoles rank top 15 in most offensive statistics. The two categories they struggle most with are walk rate and strikeout rate, which could give troubles against these Oregon State arms. Jamie Arnold will stay on normal rest and throw game two which leaves Joey Volini in game one. I was high on Oregon State in the preseason. I didn’t love what I saw at times during the regular season, but they have the makings of an Omaha team. If their pitching can hold, I like them to hold FSU off at home.
2025 Draft Prospects:
FSU – Jamie Arnold LHP (#4)
OSU – Aiva Arquettte SS (#6)
FSU – Alex Lodise SS (#45)
FSU – Max Williams OF (#77)
OSU – Gavin Turley OF (#78)
Prediction: Oregon State
Arizona @ North Carolina
UNC brings one of the country’s deeper pitching staffs to the table. The Tar Heels rank top 5 nationally in ERA and WHIP. Arizona has also been a more pitching dominant team this season. They do a good job of throwing strikes and limiting walks, which will be needed on the road. Both offenses have shown to go flat at times this season. I really like a few guys in Arizona’s, but feel like UNC has the better complete lineup. Add in home field advantage & an ace like Jake Knapp, and I’ll take the Tar Heels to advance back to Omaha. If you don’t have a UNC ticket, I would invest. Tar Heels would avoid TN, Arkansas, & LSU if they land in Omaha.
2025 Draft Prospects:
AZ- Brendan Summerhill OF (#19)
UNC – Luke Stevenson C (#20)
UNC- Kane Kepley (#82)
Prediction: North Carolina
Coastal Carolina @ Auburn
Kevin Schnall has done an amazing job at Coastal. Ending it in Omaha would be the cherry on top. Coastal’s pitching has carried this year, as they have SEC/ACC level depth. Auburn has the bats and the ace. They have experienced pop surrounded by a few of the best freshmen in the country. Sam Dutton will be going on Friday. If Coastal swings it well, I would lean their way but I’m not sure if that happens. Also, I have a tough time backing them on the road in a SEC environment.
2025 Draft Prospects:
AU – Ike Irish OF/C (#21)
CC- Caden Bodine C (#38)
Prediction: Auburn
UTSA @ UCLA
I have doubted both of these teams at time this season, and here we are. UCLA walked through a rough regional last weekend, which I did not expect. UCLA has a pitching staff full of decent arms, but nothing that stands out as a front of the rotation arm. Roch Cholowsky, Golden Spikes snub, mans the lineup.
2-0 in Austin last weekend has to be a good feeling for the Roadrunners. UTSA swings it well with an underrated pitching staff. The numbers aren’t great on the mound, but this UTSA staff has some guys that can get outs.
Prediction: UTSA
Murray State @ Duke
Duke was in my original Omaha 8 at the beginning of the season. Duke has a good team. They have one of the best lineups in the country with a ton of LHPs available to throw. There isn’t an arm that stands out, but the staff has come together well down the stretch. Murray will have to out-hit them, like they did everyone in the Oxford Regional. Their lineup rakes. Lean overs here and I like Duke to get over the hump and back to Omaha for the first time in a long time.
Prediction: Duke
West Virginia @ LSU
LSU survived a potential meltdown after coming back to beat Little Rock on Monday. The Tigers are one of the most feared teams in paper, but I have seen some flaws. The lineup isn’t as elite as people think. Two arms like Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson are huge to have in a super matchup. WVU surprised me last weekend after finishing 3-0. The Mountaineers found themselves in a tie or trailing in the 8th inning in each game. LSU has the advantage here on paper but if they leave the door open for WVU, it could get wild. If the Tigers bats show up, it will likely be a quick series as WVU lacks the depth.
2025 Draft Prospects:
LSU – Kade Anderson LHP (#3)
LSU – Anthony Eyanson RHP (#66)
LSU – Daniel Dickinson 2B (#72)
LSU – Chase Shores RHP (#85)
LSU- Jared Jones 1B (#99)
Prediction: LSU
Tennessee @ Arkansas
This is a CWS finals matchup. The winner of this series will be the front runner for the title. For most of the season, TN and Arkansas have been top 5 in most advanced stats. According to TSR, this will be the #1 vs #2 matchup. The Vols will need a big start from Liam Doyle this weekend. Arkansas hit him well during their regular season meeting. The Tennessee offense has heated back up over the course of the last few weeks. I believe Arkansas is the most complete team in the country. However, they have had their fair shares of failure in June. Arkansas looked very good against Creighton and NDSU last weekend, but this is Tennessee. It is unfortunate the Vols have to travel to Baum Walker, which is one of the toughest atmospheres in the country. Winning in Fayetteville is not easy.
No confirmation on pitching here yet. Liam Doyle tossed a few innings against Wake on Monday.
2025 Draft Prospects:
TN – Liam Doyle LHP (#9)
TN – Gavin Kilen 2B (#17)
ARK – Wehiwa Aloy SS (#22)
TN – Andrew Fischer 1B/3B (#29)
ARK – Zach Root LHP (#43)
ARK – Gage Wood RHP (#50)
ARK – Charles Davalan OF (#55)
TN – Dean Curley INF (#58)
TN – AJ Russell RHP (#69)
Prediction: Arkansas
