Welcome to Day 3. We will have Ole Miss vs Troy with the loser going home. In the winner’s bracket it will be UNC vs WVU.
4-1 +1.93u yesterday.
What a performance from Georgia’s Joey Volchko.
Troy vs Ole Miss
- Troy will turn to Tommy Egan on the mound today. Egan was hit around by Miami in the regionals, but bounced back well for a 7 innings performance against Little Rock in the Supers. He owns a 5.38 ERA but his advanced numbers are solid with a 5.35 xFIP and 3.30 SIERA. The closest offensive opponent compared to this Ole Miss lineup would be Miami. Egan pitched 0.1 IP in relief in game one and was tagged for 5 ERs. He then started the game against them two days later and was tagged for 7 hits and 4 runs in only 4.2 IP. Troy’s best reliever, Zach Crotchfelt, tossed 4.1 IP in relief against WVU on Friday. On the bright side, Troy’s offense looked good. They chased a very good starter in WVU’s Chansen Cole early. They really didn’t have much of an answer for Ian Korn though.
- Ole Miss finds themselves in the loser’s bracket after dropping the game late to UNC on Friday night. Hunter Elliott will get the ball. Elliott has been here before and is one of the most experienced arms in college baseball. His numbers this season are not your usual SEC ace: 5.15 ERA, 3.44 SIERA, 5.38 xFIP. However, Ole Miss finds ways to win the games as they own a 12-4 record in games started by Elliott. I would love the 2022 version of Hunter Elliott on the mound today for the Rebels. As I wrote up on Friday, I like this Ole Miss team. Jason DeCaro is throwing well and just blanked the offense. I believe the bats show up today. Judd Utermark puts on in the seats.
- The wind is blowing out at around 10mph. I am on the over 9.5 (posted at the bottom of the article yesterday), but I would also play o10.5. If it hits 11.5, I am okay with 0.5u or you can pivot to Ole Miss team total over when it is released. Troy’s offense looked locked in against WVU. I expect Ole Miss to hang a number with a multiple balls launched into the seats today.
My bets:
Troy / Ole Miss o9.5 -125 (read above)
Ole Miss -1.5 -122 FD
0.5u: OM to score first and win +115 DK
0.5u:OM + Texas + Georgia MLP +221 CZR
West Virginia vs North Carolina
- WVU finds themselves in the 1-0 game after beating Troy on Friday. Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, Maxx Yehl, will get the ball today against the Tar Heels. Yehl owns a 2.10 ERA, 4.83 xFIP, and a 2.70 SIERA this season. During Regionals, Yehl went 0.2 IP in the first matchup against Kentucky before leaving with arm soreness. He turned out to be fine, as he has dealt for 5 innings in each of his last two outings. Yehl is a LHP and I believe UNC rolls out 5 LHBs in their starting lineup. WVU’s offense is hot. The top of the lineup is great, but the story has been the bottom. They are getting massive production from 9 hole, Tyrus Hall. If WVU keeps that up, they will be tough to knock off on this side of the bracket.
- UNC makes it to 1-0 game after a great matchup on Friday against Ole Miss. The Tar Heels finally broke through with a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 8th from Colin Hynek. Gavin Gallagher also had a clutch 2 out single in the 7th to tie the game at 3. Ryan Lynch will get the ball tonight. Lynch is a talented arm as he sits as a top 100 draft prospect for this year’s class. As a 2nd team Freshman All-American, Lynch spent most of the year as a key reliever before moving into a starting role in the postseason. However, he has struggled at times this season. He owns a 4.22 ERA, 3.90 SIERA, and 5.92 xFIP. On the bright side, he has looked sharp in the postseason. Lynch went 7 shutout innings against VCU then followed it up with 5.2 innings in game one against USC. He did not walk a single batter against USC, but had 11 walks in his 3 starts prior. UNC needs Walker McDuffie to have his stuff in Omaha. McDuffie was solid throughout the regular season, but has been shelled during postseason play. With Glauber burned, I expect McDuffie to get the ball after Lynch. Jackson Rose is also another option available. This team is full of arms. The pitching highlights this team, but UNC’s offense cannot be slept on. Owen Hull is on fire and really boosting his draft stock this postseason.
- This should be a good matchup with the winner claiming the driver’s seat on this side of the bracket. I am going to play u10.5 as I believe Yehl can hold this UNC lineup in check while Lynch does just enough to get the ball to this elite UNC bullpen. I may end up adding a game prop once they are released.
My bet:
1.5u: WVU / UNC u10.5 -115 DK
6/15 Bets
Texas + Georgia +115 CZR
Texas -1.5 -108 FD
