Good morning! Welcome to Day 2. We have two SEC matchups on the schedule today as Oklahoma takes on Alabama and Georgia against Texas.
+1.5u yesterday.
Not a bad Day 1. Ole Miss blew up late after leading for the majority of the game. WVU came through late to cover the -1.5.
Oklahoma vs Alabama
- Oklahoma proves the hot-cold-hot theory is still alive after starting the season as a top 10 team, falling off towards the end of SEC play, then winning the Georgia Tech regional and steamrolling through Kansas. Bottom line is that this team has been playing their best baseball at the right time. The crazy part is that they have done all of this without Cam Johnson. Johnson has shown elite stuff, but struggled mightily with his command throughout the season. He has only faced two batters since the Tennessee series on 5/14. Cord Rager will get the ball. In my opinion, he has been one of the most underrated freshmen the SEC has to offer. Rager has a 5.20 ERA but his numbers are better under the hood. He owns a 2.55 SIERA, 4.51 xFIP, and 11.4 K/9. Oklahoma’s offense has been red hot. The Sooners own a team batting average of .350, 18 home runs, 27 extra-base hits and 70 runs scored across seven postseason games. Dayton Tockey and Trey Gambill have been leading the power department. Deighton Lachance and Camden Johnson are the two center pieces of the offense.
- Alabama has honestly had the easiest path to Omaha. They have only had to play one game against a top 32 seeded team. Unlike many teams, they have handled business. Tyler Fay will get the ball. Fay has been a huge reason for Alabama’s success this season as he owns a 4.37 ERA, 2.62 SIERA, and 4.56 xFIP. His problem this season has been giving up the long ball, so a move to Charles Schwab should be a solid boost. Alabama’s offense is led by Brady Neal and Bryce Fowler, who both are hitting over .320 on the season. Justin LeBron will be a first round pick in this year’s draft, but has struggled at some points this season. Despite the “struggles”, LeBron has hit 16 HRs while being successful in 41 of his 42 stolen base attempts. He is an elite power + speed threat at SS. Defensively he has made 18 errors, which is not good. I like Rob Vaughn. I feel like he is a great coach that game plans very well.
- This will be a good matchup. Oklahoma is the hotter team, while Alabama is the more consistent team. Winds will be minimal in this game, which makes me lean to the under. These are two talented starting arms with a full bullpen to follow. I also like Oklahoma here. I believe they are the hotter team while Alabama received a cake walk to this point. I will be looking for a Bama TT under as well. 6-4 OU. Sprinkle some OU to win by 1 run or 2 runs on DK at +850.
My bets:
1u: Oklahoma -108 FD (would play to -120)
1u: Alabama / Oklahoma u11.5 -120 DK
0.5u: Alabama TT u5.5 -115
Texas vs Georgia
- Texas heads to Omaha for the 39th time in program history after walking through the Austin Regional and sweeping Oregon. Yet to win it all, Jim Schlossnagle has been in Omaha in 8 of his last 16 seasons. As we all know, this Longhorn roster is talented. Dylan Volantis will get the in game one. In my opinion, Volantis is the best pitcher in the country. After breaking the SEC saves record as a freshman, he stepped into the Friday role to own a 2.03 ERA, 1.88 SIERA, 4.05 xFIP, and a 12.8 K/9. The Texas offense has been swinging it well. Adrian Rodriguez stepped up in the Super Regionals with a big time hit in both games. He projects to be an early first rounder in 2027. Aiden Robbins has been phenomenal in the leadoff spot as he owns a .342 average with a team-leading 24 HRs. Carson Tinney is another transfer that has raked all season, owning a .333 average with 22 HRs. College Baseball’s winningest program is set up well to win it all this season.
- Wes Johnson has led Georgia back to Omaha for the first time since 2008. This lineup absolutely hammers the baseball. Yes, Foley Field can play as a porch, but these guys are hitting balls that would be out in any ballpark. A lot of people also said Tennessee’s HRs would not transfer to Omaha in 2024. They ended with the trophy after hitting 11 HRs in 6 games. The long ball will play here if you have the pop. Georgia leads the country in multiple offensive categories. They have 3 bags that rank 1-2-3 in SEC batting average. Daniel Jackson is my pick to win the Golden Spikes as he has put up video game numbers all season as a Catcher. It would be a complete snub if they give it to someone else. Ryan Lujo and Tre Phelps are both hitting over .360 on the season. Michael O’Shaughnessy has the pop to hit it way out of Charles Schwab and he found his power in the super against Miss State. The problem with Georgia is they do not possess a starter that matches up with Volantis. Joey Volchko has some elite first round stuff, but struggles with command. Georgia will need Volchko’s absolute best in this game. The Dawgs do have a few solid bullpen pieces to follow Volchko if he can get through 5.
- What a matchup. These two are my two favorite teams left in the field and I believe the winner of this game takes home the trophy. It reminds me alot of LSU vs Arkansas last year. 3 seed Arkansas was red hot and swept 14 seed Tennessee in a crazy environment home super regional before losing to 6 seed LSU against elite LHP Kade Anderson. However, the wind is blowing out here to RF at nearly 20mph. This allows Georgia to flex their power. Oregon put guys on base against Volantis but could not come through with a hit with runners in scoring position. Georgia features 6 or 7 RHB in their starting lineup. I have this matchup priced at a pick’em so I believe there is value on Georgia. UGA 8-6
My bets:
1.5u: Georgia / Texas o10 -130 CZR (would play to 12)
1.25u: Georgia ML +110 CZR
